Online Catalogue    AUDIO ASSISTANCE    Audio Description & Hearing Assistive Systems    RAD (Radio Audio Description)
Overview
Overview

RAD is a large venue radio audio description and/or hearing assistive system which is GUARANTEED to reach every seat with crystal clear reception indoors or outdoors. RAD equipment transmits on broadcast band frequencies, is licensed by OFCOM and is recommended by the RNIB.

RECEIVERS

RAD receivers are small, light weight radios with earpieces and disposable batteries. They only have a combined on/off switch volume control and fine tuning control so are very simple to operate.
Unlike infra red or low power radio receivers they need not be in line of sight of the transmitter or even close to it. There is no limit to the number of receivers each transmitter can accommodate.
Flight cases are available to store receivers and ear pieces in 10 way, 20 way and 50 way sizes.

TRANSMITTER

An RAD transmitter is permanently located in each venue, professionally installed and commissioned with an engineer present at the initial launch to train staff. All systems have the facility to accept two commentators, each with their own individual microphone headset. In addition a line level input allows for pre–recorded information to be introduced before a performance starts, this allows users to check receivers and
reception levels. Access Audio radio audio description equipment, (RAD for short), is specifically designed and professionally installed to give the best possible performance for sensory impaired people attending theatres, concert halls, cinemas, sports events or any public events. Utilising newly freed up sections of the broadcast band radio spectrum, RAD systems offer a superb level of reception at any point in every venue where the equipment is installed.

GENERAL

RAD systems operate in broadcast band frequencies and must be licensed by OFCOM before use, full guidance through the licensing application is part of the installation procedure. All RAD systems have a twelve months guarantee covering equipment and installation.
Service maintenance facilities for ongoing care are available, full details on request.

INSTALLATION

Each site would require a transmitter installation at a cost of £3,345.00, in addition the number of receivers could vary depending on the requirement of a particular venue while the cost of flight cases would depend on the number of receivers ordered. Each transmitter installation comes with one headset microphone as standard.

The installation price includes an engineer on site for the first match or performance at each venue. The combined line level mixer unit specified can accept two microphones for simultaneous input from two commentators. In addition there is a line level input which could be used to send a pre-recorded commentary before proceedings start to allow receivers to be tested, tuned in and adjusted for comfortable listening.
Lease / Purchase and rental options are available – Full details on request.
